30 Years of Passion and Precision in Greater China Print
Ketchum News - Greater China

Ketchum_30_emailIn 1980, the Greater China region was a rather different place to what it is now. Hong Kong was still under British rule and the “one country, two systems” concept had yet to be coined for how the territory would be governed after the handover to Chinese rule in 1997, a date that was starting to loom closer. Meanwhile, the government in Beijing had put the country on a new path of political and economic reforms that were responsible for the emergence of an economic superpower that has been the phenomenon of the past decade. Taiwan was still under martial law but had already transformed itself into an Asian Tiger economy.

All of that was thirty years ago and was the environment in which Ketchum Greater China was born in Hong Kong in 1980. Since then the company has continued to grow to six offices across the Greater China region, more than any other international agency. The Greater China team now plays an increasingly important role in Ketchum’s global network of over 100 offices in more than 70 countries.

We have also expanded the breadth of our services from media tracking to reputation management, brand marketing and now to financial communications and digital media. Today we support local home grown companies operating in their local markets such as bossini and Wharf Group; major multinational companies communicating inside Greater China such as FedEx, Lufthansa, Jaguar and Visa, as well as a growing number of Chinese companies expanding their reach into international markets such as China Construction Bank and CNOOC Ltd.

The strength and stability of the Ketchum Greater China management team has contributed significantly to our success, drawing together both local and international experience and leadership. This has ensured consistency in maintaining industry standards, pushing new creative frontiers and balancing the need for scalable perspectives from the local to global levels. In short, over three decades we’ve stayed true to our positioning: Passion and Precision in Communications.
