In September, Ketchum Greater China celebrated its 30th anniversary. The company, which was founded in Hong Kong in 1980 with a staff of four, now boasts five offices around Greater China, a team of 160 professionals from around the world, and a broad network of affiliates throughout the Asia Pacific region. Ketchum partner & Greater China CEO, Kenneth Chu, attributed the success of Ketchum Greater China to the original vision of Betty Lo, founder of the company: “We would not be celebrating our 30th anniversary this year if not for a vision that Betty had in 1980. Betty wanted to create a public relations agency that offers the best of East and West and brings East and West together in the same way that the ancient Silk Road helped initiate a process of commercial, cultural and political exchange and globalization that continues today. For the last 30 years, we have been committed to playing a role on the modern Silk Road, helping our international clients to build their brands and promote their products and services in Mainland China, and, more recently, helping Chinese clients to build an understanding of their operations among international investors and launch them on their own road to globalization.”
Jon Higgins, senior partner and CEO International, said: “The attendance of so many key client representatives at the event celebrating Ketchum’s 30th anniversary in Greater China was evidence of the strong partnership chain that Kenneth and Betty had created over the last three decades and a testament to the deep and broad client relationships that have underpinned the growth of the company.”
Commenting on the relationship between Ketchum and Newscan, the company that Betty Lo founded in 1980 and which is now fully integrated into Ketchum’s global agency network, Higgins observed: “Our partnership brings something unique. A home grown Chinese agency network matched with one of the most successful and respected international agencies in the PR industry. Few agencies can match the established Greater China market experience, international standards in working practice, specialist knowledge and the local-global network accessibility that we offer.”
